I would like to just discuss some of the top things that people do to search for a dentist.
Maybe one of the best ways for you is to search for a dentist near you or a dentist that you can trust. So if you have dental anxiety, maybe you want to have a dental home.
I think still the number one way of getting a reliable source is asking friends and family.
You can trust your friends and family and if they’ve had a good experience, typically you will too. The problem with that is (even though I think that’s a good idea) the short coming is that not everybody wants to be treated the same way.
So you may have a friend who likes something a certain way but you don’t really like things that way so even though they’re getting served in that capacity, if you go to a certain dental office if they treat you the same way as your friend, that may not align with either your values or what makes you feel comfortable. But I still think it’s a good way of finding a dentist that is right for you.
The other way people search is probably what you’re doing now, researching local dentists online. Google reviews and Yelp and sites like that are very good at getting people’s testimonials, what their reviews have been, what their experiences have been in a certain practice.
Whether it’s a dentist or whether it’s going to a bakery or a restaurant whatever it is, the fact is that people are going to want to say things.
Typically we find that bad news travels fast. So if there are negative reviews they are definitely going to show up. We’re fortunate that we’ve had a lot of really great dental patients who have had great experiences here at our office because that’s something we really focus on and we’re able to get their Google reviews.
So continue to look through, and find different review sites and find the best way of researching local dentists as far as the media goes.
You can also use Facebook. Of course Facebook is a great way and any of the social media networks are a great way to find and ask people for their opinions about their dental experiences.
Of course, there’s local print that you can go through. For me, I’m a guest columnist. I’ve been doing it for about 14 years at a local paper, “Ask the General Dentist” because I have a lot of experience doing many things in dentistry. Reading articles is another good way of finding out if a dentist is right for you.
So there are about 3 or 4 different ideas for you. Once again, to review that, there is personal referral which may be the best way of finding a dental office. Then there is doing research with different review sites. Next, Facebook is an option and finally print media is a good option to find a dentist.
