High technology at The Gentle Dentist’s Dental Office in Macomb County, Michigan

At The Gentle Dentist located in Shelby Township, Macomb County, Michigan we pride ourselves in the fact that we combine High technology with High touch.  Our team of dental professionals aim to make your visit to our dental office in Shelby Twp. the most positive experience at a dental office as possible.  With a lighthearted, compassionate environment many of our dental patients say what a great place this is to even visit.

How then do we incorporate our dental technology with the gentle touch?  That is easy-We use the technology as a tool and not an excuse to ignore our dental patients.

The following are examples how we use technology at our dental office located at 22 Mile Rd. just west of Hayes which is 2 miles north of Sterling Heights:

  • We are a paperless dental office so this means that any forms are sent to you online to be filled out in the privacy of your own home so that when you arrive at the dental office  you will only need to review the information you filled out and sign off on our tablet PC.  This is convenient when you have the time and have access to your medical and dental information.
  • Digital x rays and panoramic x rays.  With the use of digital x rays your exposure to radiation is decreased by 50-60%.  The image appears on our screen within 4 seconds of exposure.  If a different view is needed there is no need to wait which is common with x ray film. This also makes us a “green dental office” since there are no harmful chemicals disposed of and used.
  • Electric dental hand pieces are used for precise control of the drill and is quieter than the air driven drills used by many dentists in the Macomb County area.
  • Digital photos of both your smile and mouth make communication and understanding much easier which take the guess work out of it.  These can also be emailed to you for your own use.
  • Computer based educational systems are used to allow you the dental patient to have a better understanding of the procedures that are recommended to you.

These are only a few of the unique high technology tools we use for our dental patients in the Washington Twp., Clinton Township and New Baltimore areas.  For more information please visit our website at www.TheGentleDentist.com or call (586)247-3500.

Details: A fund raiser for those people who need dental services and who desire to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.

Dr. Antolak was planning to leave for Haiti on January 21, along with 23 members of Faith Lutheran Church in Troy and members of other area churches, to share the love of Jesus Christ through a soccer clinic, working with an orphanage, and performing dentistry to over 250 people who don’t have access to dental care.

Unfortunately, the trip had to be cancelled because of the Haiti earthquake.  This would have been Dr. Antolak’s ninth visit to Les Cayes, Haiti on the southwest coast of the country.  Fortunately the dental clinic and church, where he has served for 8 years, sustained only minor damage. However, Faith Lutheran Church has been working alongside the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Haiti (ELCH) for the last nine years and the ELCH church was completely destroyed in the quake. The ELCH church will not receive any aide from outside public sources to rebuild except through direct private fundraising donations.

In response to the Haiti disaster, Dr. Antolak and his long time friend, Dr. Apsey of Warren, along with several other volunteer assistants, will be offering dental services to local residents who need dental care and at the same time, would like to help the earthquake victims. Services offered will be: Cleanings, x-rays, fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns and bridges and other general dental services.

Donation checks will be made to Faith Lutheran Church and are considered tax deductible.  Those contributing will receive receipts from the church. The suggested donation for services will be based on Dr. Antolak’s normal fee schedule.   “I can personally guarantee that 100% of the funds raised will go to where they are supposed to go. I have been serving in Haiti for nine years and know the pastors there personally and communicate with them on a regular basis.”  Antolak said.

Chrysler and GM employee: Are you confused about dental insurance?

Confused about dental insurance?

Dental insurance was introduced in the 1960’s and was originally designed to help with the cost of dental expenses, not pay for the entire treatment. This benefit was exciting for those who were beneficiaries from the generosity of the automotive companies. These benefits gave the opportunity for many to have needed dental care done. The dental benefits haven’t changed much in the last 40 years in the Detroit Michigan area. In fact they originally had a $1000 maximum per year which is now $1,200 per year: only 20% of inflation rate. Today in this economy having insurance is a blessing and at the same time it is confusing. This month’s article is designed to help you understand your dental insurance better. Here are some facts:
1. Dental insurance is a contract between the insurance company and the patient.
Each year whether it is a calendar year running from January –December or a contact year running from July-June, the insurance company allows a maximum amount that they will pay the dental provider on your behalf. The maximum is usually $1000.00. Some plans also have a deductible, which is to be paid each year, generally $25.00-$50.00.
2. Insurance companies pay a percentage of each procedure.
Here is a breakdown:
100% -Diagnostic and Preventative services, which includes exams, cleaning and x-rays
80%-Basic/Restorative services, which includes fillings
50%-Major/Restorative services, which includes, root canals, crowns and prosthodontics (dentures, partials and implants)

3. Due to insurance companies paying by a percentage, your out of pocket expenses can vary. If you decide to see a dentist that is not in-network you may have to pay more since the insurance company pays a limited amount for each procedure. To make this profitable, dentists who agree to participate with these plans may need to see more patients at one time or reduce their expenses by using less quality materials or labs.
With the collapse of the auto companies it became necessary to reduce or eliminate benefits. There are many decisions now that have to be made which in the past were made for the employee. At the same time these benefits are becoming evident which in the past were assumed.
If you have a PPO (Preferred provider organization) plan:
-You may need to pay slightly more money but still have choices in the dental office who provides care for you and your family. If you have no choice but to find a dentist in your network it can be difficult.
-You may need to check with your insurance provider for a list of dentists that participate with them. To make sure these dental providers meet your standards it may be necessary to evaluate their office by checking over the internet or by asking friends.
If you are in need for insurance:
Selecting a dental insurance company can be difficult and confusing as well. Delta Dental has a contract with AARP that may work for you. You can visit www.deltadentalins.com or call 1-866-583-2085 for more information.

Please feel free to call our office with any questions you may have. You do not have to be a patient of ours for us to help you out. You can also visit our website at www.TheGentleDentist.com or call us at 586-247-3500.
