The Gentle Dentist in Shelby Township Talks About the Comprehensive Exam

Hi, I’m going to talk to you about our comprehensive exam today. Our comprehensive exam is a little more extensive than most exams that you’ve probably had in the past. It starts out by you coming to our office and we’ll do a full exam of the head, neck, and oral cavity. The process will start with us receiving your medical and dental history through some forms that you’ll fill out online.

You can either do this from home or at our office, when we take you back we will go over those forms with you, talk about any concerns that you may have, then we will begin with a full series of x-rays and photographs to help us diagnose any decay or anything that might be going on. We also use the photographs as an educational tool, so that we can show you what we see, which can be really helpful when explaining things to you, then he will do an extensive exam.  He’ll use the x-rays, the photographs, the medical history along with what he sees and come up with a treatment plan for you. We will then schedule you for a consultation. And at that time, we’ll sit down with you and go over all of the work that you’ll need done. And we’ll also talk to you about insurance and any payment plans, answer any questions that you may have.

Lengthen, Brighten and Straighten Your Teeth With Porcelain Veneers

I have a question for you.  Do know what people notice first on you, when you first meet them, or when you first see them, or when they first see you. You think it’s your hair? You think it’s your clothes? No, it’s your smile!  People always notice your smile and they notice your teeth too. If you want to make a good first impression for you to work or if your single and looking for that special person or you just want to feel good about yourself then cosmetic dentistry is the thing for you. You know a smile is so important that we know, I know people who come in here, who have  an embarrassing smile and it effects personality.  They do this, they hide their smile. They do this when they try to smile. But, no matter what, they’re gonna always protect that smile from being  shown. In fact, they’ll be out of pictures for the people who are taking the pictures, and not the one in the photos.

So, what do we do about that? Well if you’re tired of not being able to smile we have lots of different options at our office. We do veneers- porcelain veneers, which are thin shells of porcelain that go over the teeth to give you a whole new smile. You can lengthen the teeth, brighten them, straighten them, in just as simple as two short visits.

Also, we do invisible braces which will slowly move the teeth together in a proper way using clear aligners. In doing that people don’t really notice that you have braces on, but yet your teeth are getting straightened out slowly. In fact I’m wearing one right now in my mouth.

We also do porcelain crowns. Porcelain crowns are like veneers, except they go around the whole tooth. And the beauty now is we have some materials now that are very very strong and they look beautiful. So they have the strength, they have the longevity, and when we bind it in place, they are like normal actual teeth. I have veneers, 2 veneers on my 2 front teeth on top that I had done many years ago. It’s amazing because they are just like my own teeth. I could never tell the difference.

Also, bleaching or whitening is probably one of the most common and popular types of procedures done that will whiten your teeth. We can do that in a quick way. Which is just by doing either Zoom, or we actually do the KOR Whitening System also, which is a very effective for giving an outstanding color. Even if you have dark tetracycline stained teeth, dark teeth.  It really brightens them up.  We also have those that you can take home with you. Wear whitening trays during the nighttime or even during the daytime. When you’re  driving from, back and forth from work to home and and that’ll whiten your teeth.

We have many different options here at our office. I like to  use digital photography  to capture your picture before and after. All different photos, I actually take 13 different pictures and shots. That way, we really involve our patients, so that they can see what I see. And then we can become interacted, and we can become part of a team to help you get the smile that you’ve always wanted to.

KOR Whitening System – Feel Most Confident With a Bright White Smile

One thing that’s important is white teeth, right? When we smile, we show our best, we feel the most confident, and we have a bright white smile. That’s just how it is with Hollywood and the way that we all want to look; young, vibrant and healthy.

The smile is the way that we can notice that the most. For people who have dark stained teeth, either tetracycline stained teeth that if when you were a child and were taking tetracycline as an antibiotic, your teeth may have turned a brown color; they have lines in them, that’s tetracycline. Or if it’s been years and years since your teeth have been white, and you’ve never whitened your teeth before, this might be the technique to use.

KOR Whitening is a specialized system that is formulated to reduce sensitivity compared to other whitening systems. KOR Whitening is sent to us refrigerated. There’s a syrofoam container that comes all the way from California where it’s made, and the reason why that is, is that it’s refrigerated the entire way here, and we have to refrigerate it. There are no preservatives in it.

Whitening systems depend on the breakdown of oxygen into what are called free radicals. These free radicals are the things that will actually whiten teeth. The way that other systems use the whitening would be to use the preservatives to make it acidic.

In an acidic environment, the material is called carbamide peroxide. It is kept from being broken down in this acidic solution. The problem is, is that when you use it on your teeth, it is like putting acid on teeth; it makes them sensitive. KOR Whitening, because it’s refrigerated, is actually a neutral PH. When it’s a neutral PH, and it warms up, it becomes active.

When it becomes active, it releases oxygen and the free radicals that are involved with it. Therefore it becomes a very active substrate without the acidic PH. It is very effective, it’s actually more effective than, I would say, Zoom. Even though I have the Zoom light, KOR Whitening is more effective than that.

It is a more expensive process. It costs more, and that’s one of the downturns of it. But the advantage is, is it creates a much better result, long term result, without the sensitivity that you might expect and can get through some other systems.

So, on this other side here, you can see some of the different advantages of doing that. We can really see how the teeth have made a significant color shift through time.

In our office, we use a KOR Whitening System. What we do is, you come into the office, we take an impression of your teeth, make the whitening trays (very specialized trays that you’ll wear), and you will get the teeth so that they’ll actually be activated. They’ll be receptive of receiving a very high concentrate of the KOR Whitening System. Then you will come back in for one hour to an hour and a half session, where we’ll actually apply very strong hydrogen peroxide gel right to the teeth. It’s specialized; once again, it’s not solidified. And then you go back home again, and you do whiten again in your house.

It’s about a month process to do this, so it takes time. It takes commitment, but I’m telling you, the results are like nothing else.
